ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
STORY OF
AHSAS DISABLED PEOPLE ORGANIZATION
By: Siddique
Ahmad [The founder]
Ahsas
Disabled People Organization was founded consciously when I had to
come out of village for secondary school education. I had to find a
proper place in vehicles due to my disability. I had to suffer jolts
and shoves and scornful words of people daily which always slurred
that the society is enemy of disables. But I always thought to create
a friendly relation with society. I never gave way to my disabilities
to be a hurdle in my way. I always faced these situations rather I
made every possible efforts to create awareness in society. My
teachers and parents always encouraged me and never let my spirit
break. They inspired me to get higher education. Today whatever I am,
the credit goes to my teachers and parents. They always give the
message that a 6 feet man is not a human but the real human is who has
knowledge, sympathy and good character. They made me aware that I too
can be a great man if I fulfill my educational goals seriously and
cope with my disabilities. In fact, my teachers and parents are source
of my inspiration. (May God bless them).
In the
last 16 educational years of my life, I observed society keenly .I
realized the status of PWD’s in society. Laughter’s sarcasm, taunts of
people always followed me. This disgrace became helpful in running
Ahsas Disabled People Organization in a proper manner. I prepared a
basic plan for movement when I was a student of intermediate.
During
8th October earthquake [Kheber PK Pakistan] I was too much
disappointed when I heard the cries of innocent children. After three
hours of the earthquake I saw women and children near river side in a
very pitiful condition. Children were asking for food and their
mothers could do nothing except looking at sky and cry for assistance.
I could not bear this all and I went to the earthquake ruined streets
without considering the after shocks of earthquake. I was in search of
food for the children. Voice of my elders was stopping me to go ahead
but my sympathetic and sensitive heart was compelling to go towards
the homes being damaged. It was the time when nobody was ready to go
inside the streets.
In such
situation I laid down the base of Ahsas welfare trust temporarily. I
united a lot of villagers and removed the debris from streets and ways
of mosques. I also set Ahsas welfare trust free medical dispensary and
took medicines and first aid from different NGO's.
Doctor
Muhammad Ilyas Quraishi MBBS [Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad] joined
me as a volunteer for treatment of injured people. In fact my mission
was especially for disabled people therefore when other NGOs came and
become helpful for earthquake affected peoples, I changed the name of
Ahsas Welfare Trust into Ahsas Welfare Trust for special people. (Now
it’s changed into AHSAS DISABLED PEOPLE ORGANIZATION during a meeting
with SAIBAAN DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION and HANDICAP INTERNATIONAL). I
requested to Molana Ghulam Nabi for guidance, honorable Molana Ghulam
Nabi is executive head of an educational institute. He gave me
approval after suggestion
I was
unaware of techniques of field work, so I availed the help of
different NGOs .eventually I met Mr. Imran and Mr. Jamshaid [field
officers of AMAN PAKISTAN FOUNDATION].They told me about field work. I
got training and started my mission from primary schools.
Eventually I reached to Saibaan Development Organization. Sahibzada
Jawad AL-Faizi is the founder and Executive Director of this NGO. I
was honored when he gave me chance of meeting in his office located in
house no. F47 Ghazikot Township [Mansehra]. He not only attended me
but also encouraged me. He asked me to start my plan. He guided me and
gave basic training as well. He assured me to cooperate for which I am
very thankful to him. Due to which my plan got out of mere papers and
become field work.
It's the
story of Ahsas Disabled People Organization.
You are
requested to make prayers that we may remain resolute and constant in
our plan and may it become a source of pardon of God for us
